Summary:PURPOSE:To provide the subject false twist yarn having a structure where a polyurethane as the core and a fiber-forming thermoplastic resin as the sheath are concentrically arranged, twisted in the longitudinal direction, having many levees on the surface, excellent in elastic recovery and bulkiness and useful for a textile structure, etc. CONSTITUTION:A polyurethane is produced by reacting a polycaprolactone glycol having 2000 molecular weight with p,p'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate and subsequently using 1,4-butanediol as a chainextender. The resultant polyurethane is used as the core and a fiber-forming thermoplastic polymer such as 12 nylon is used as the sheath. Conjugate spinning of both the components is carried out by melting the sheath component polymer by another extruder and discharging both the components through a sheath-core conjugate spinning nozzle having a concentrical circular shape. The spun yarn is then stretched by a factor of 2.5 times in the cold and subsequently subjected to false twisting by using a spindle-type apparatus, thus producing the objective polyurethane-based false twist yarn of a conjugated elastic filament composed of concentrically arranged core and sheath components, having S- or Z-direction twists within a range of 10 to 1000 time/m in the longitudinal direction and many levees on the surface of the filament.
