Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst for burning hydrocarbon which is large in combustion activity and excellent in heat resistance and produced at a low cost. CONSTITUTION:Lanthanum and zirconium are so mixed that La/Zr (mol ratio) is regulated to 3/7-7/3. The mixture is burned at 700 deg.C to the temperature lower than 1400 deg.C in air to obtain double oxide La2Zr2O7 of lanthanum and zirconium. A catalyst for burning hydrocarbon has the composite oxide La2Zr2O7 as a catalytically activated component.
