Summary:PURPOSE:To provide the connecting method capable of connecting optical fibers by a simple method without rupturing the optical fibers in the juncture of the optical fibers protected with metallic pipes. CONSTITUTION:A glass pipe 4 is previously passed into the one optical fiber 1 and the metallic pipe 3 for connection is passed into one of the protective metallic pipes 2. The glass parts of the optical fibers 1 are exposed and are fusion spliced in this state. The glass pipe 4 is so set that the fused connecting point comes at the center of the glass pipe 4 and both ends of the glass pipe 4 are adhered to the optical fibers 1 by using a heat resistant adhesive 5. Finally, both ends of the metallic pipe 3 for connection which is previously passed into the protective metallic pipes 2 are mounted by welding to the protective metallic pipes 2 on both sides, by which the protection of the juncture is completed.
