Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a pressure tube reactor which can be controlled properly by promptly detecting boiling no matter in which pressure tube it occurs at the start of the reactor, and, should piping be ruptured, promptly detecting the ruptured parts. CONSTITUTION:A pressure tube reactor, in which fuel 5 is enclosed in a pressure tube 1, and a coolant 4 is allowed to flow into the pressure tube 1 from an inlet tube 7 and flow out of an outlet tube 8, has an inlet flow meter 9 installed between the lower end of the fuel 5 and the inlet tube 7 and an outlet flow meter 10 installed between the upper end of the fuel 5 and the outlet tube 8. Flow rate signals obtained from the flow meters are fed to monitoring equipment 13 and reactor controllers (A), (B) via a computing unit 11 and a judging unit 12, and the reactor is controlled by these two reactor controllers.
