Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a printer capable of printing data formed by assuming a specific paper size within a specific printing area on paper without drop of characters. CONSTITUTION:A printer comprises a means 3 for storing a paper size relating to data formed by assuming a specific paper size; a means 4 for storing a printing area defined on actual printing paper; a means 5 for determining an enlargement/reduction factor by comparing the paper size with the size of the printing area; and a means 6 for determining a printing format in accordance with the enlargement/reduction factor. The data formed by assuming a specific paper size is enlarged/reduced so as to be printed within the printing area defined on the actual printing paper. In this construction, the data formed by assuming a specific paper size can be enlarged/reduced so as to be printed within the printing area defined on the actual printing paper, and drop of characters or other troubles can be eliminated.
