PURPOSE:To eliminate work of high accuracy and reduce weight, in a valve operating device for an engine in which a plurality of cams are used selectively. CONSTITUTION:A valve operating device is provided with a lost motion spring 25 for pushing an auxiliary rocker arm 2 to a high speed cam 22, and prop 31 for transferring energizing force thereof to the auxiliary rocker arm 2, and also it is provided with an engaging member 40 formed separately from a main rocker arm 1. It is formed in such constitution that the prop 31 is driven at an engaging position which abuts on the engaging member 40 and at a non- engaging position which does not abut thereon according to operating condition of an engine, and the engaging member 40 and the prop 31 are made of ferrous metal, and also the main rocker arm 1 is made of aluminum system metal.
