Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a sintered compact of intricate shape having a high mechanical strength at low cost without any trouble in the device. CONSTITUTION:A gas-impermeable film is formed on the surface of an article to be treated, and the article is pressed and heated in an oxidizing gas contg. 100ppm to 50vol.% oxygen. Consequently, the reduction of the sintered compact, etc., is prevented, and the ignition temp. of the heating furnace constituting member is increased by the atmospheric gas of such a composition. As a result, the characteristic of the sintered compact is improved, the service life of the member is prolonged, and the sintered compact of intricate shape having a high mechanical strength is obtained at low cost without any trouble in the device in cooperation with the insulating layers 16, 25 and 27 of a heating furnace 9.
