Summary:PURPOSE:To enable heat released from a primary coil to be positively dissipated by a method wherein an iron core inside an ignition coil and a primary coil bobbin are thermally joined to a cylinder head or the like of comparatively low temperature through a heat dissipating body. CONSTITUTION:An ignition coil is equipped with a primary coil bobbin 12 on which a primary coil 14 is wound, a secondary coil bobbin 16 where a secondary coil 18 is wound and which is provided to the outer circumference of the primary coil bobbin 12, and an iron core 20 arranged penetrating the primary coil bobbin 12. A heat dissipating body 300 is provided to a part of the iron core 20 which penetrates the primary coil bobbin 12. The heat dissipating body 300 is made to serve as a heat pipe in this ignition coil. By this setup, heat released from the primary coil 14 is discharged to the whole engine block through the intermediary of a cylinder head 28 and effectively dissipated in a closed engine room, so that an ignition coil of this design can be enhanced in cooling effect.
