Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a printing apparatus capable of serving notice of errors in the direction of attaching a ribbon cassette before printing operation. CONSTITUTION:The apparatus is featured such that reflectors 31, 32 are provided on a ribbon cassette 21 for housing multipass ink ribbon, and only when an optical sensor 33 receives lights reflected against the reflectors 31, 32, the printing operation becomes possible. In the case that no optical sensor 33 receive reflected lights, the printing operation is made impossible, and the alarm is activated to give notice to the user that the reversal of the multipass ink ribbon is urged.
