Summary:PURPOSE:To provide new 2,3,6-trimethyl-5- (tetrahydrofuran-2 yl) benzoquinone which is a safer and more effective medicine for improving hepatic diseases, useful for therapy of chronic hepatitis, hepatic fibrosis, liver cirrhosis and biliary diseases. CONSTITUTION:2,3,6-Trimethyl.-5- (tetrahydrofuran-2-yl) benzoquinone represented by formula I. The compound of formula I can be readily obtained by oxidizing 2,3,6-trimethyl-5-(tetrahydrofuran-2-yl)hydroquinone of formula II in the presence of ferric chloride or cerium (IV) ammonium nitrate.
