Summary:PURPOSE:To make highly accurate AT possible by providing a means that detects tracking signals independently of three beam spots irradiated on a light card and a means that switches and uses operation of the detecting means according to mode, recording or reproducing, and recording area at the time of recording. CONSTITUTION:When recording information in a recording area 41 spots S1, S2, S3 are irradiated on a clock track 21, the recording area 41 and a tracking track 31 respectively. Reflected light from the spot S1 enters a detector 17 and a clock signal is reproduced. Reflected light from the spot S3 enters a photodetector 19 and a tracking signal is detected. When the spot S3 deviates from the tracking track 31, a difference is produced between intensity of light incident on A, C and B, D, and a tracking signal is obtained by comparing signals from these light receiving faces. Based on the tracking signal, spots S1, S2, S3 are shifted in one body in the direction perpendicular to the direction of scanning (direction b) and AT is performed.
