Summary: | PURPOSE:To enhance splicing strength and to provide a spliced and reinforced part of a coated optical fiber causing no trouble to the handling of the fiber. CONSTITUTION:A naked optical fiber 3 is exposed by stripping a coated optical fiber and a small diameter part 7 is formed by removing part of the outer jacket layer 5 at the root of the naked optical fiber 3 over a prescribed length. Such naked optical fibers 3 are fusion-spliced and a reinforcing material 6 is overlaid on the fusion splicing part and the small diameter parts 7 to a diameter equal to the outside diameter of the jacket layers 5 to coat the parts again. |
