Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a stand-type vacuum cleaner that can effectively reduce to a large extent a noise that cannot sufficiently be reduced with prior art. CONSTITUTION:In an exhaust chamber 12 incorporating an electromotive air blower 15 an exhaust duct 13 provided in such a manner that the exhaust duct 13 surrounds the case 11 of the main body. The exhaust chamber 12 and the exhaust duct 13 incorporates an active silenting device comprising a noise detecting microphone 16, a speaker, a monitor and a control circuit 19. An exhaust noise generated by driving the electromotive air blower 15 is given out to the outside of the device from the exhaust duct 13 through the exhaust duct 13. In this process, noise is detected with a noise detecting microphone 16 provided with an exhaust chamber 12 followed by giving out a sound wave having a waveform calculated with the control circuit 19 to provide a phase opposite to the detected sound wave and an identical frequency. Consequently, the two sound waves interfering with each other to largely reduce the sound level from the exhaust port 14 to the outside.
