Summary:PURPOSE:To make it possible to locate a fault point with a high accuracy by receiving the surge waveforms generated at the time of the fault of a transmission line at both ends, estimating the waveforms of the received surge waves at the fault point based on the constitution data of the line stored in a memory beforehand, and considering the point where both waveforms become in accord as the fault point. CONSTITUTION:Surge receiving parts 2a and 2b are provided at both ends of transmission line 1. AD signal processing parts 3a and 3b for converting the received surge waveforms into the digital values and storage memories 4a and 4b for storing the data are provided. Meanwhile, the constitution data of the line 1 are stored in a data memory 6 beforehand. The data are used, and the propagating distances (x) and (1-x) of the surge waveforms received at both ends of the line 1 are assumed. The surge waveforms generated at the fault point are operated and estimated at waveform operating parts 5a and 5b. The surge waveforms are compared with the received surge waveforms, which are stored in the memories 4a and 4b in a comparing part 7. The position of the fault point is sequentially changed and the operation is repeated until the agreement is obtained. At the time of agreement, the point is determined as the fault point and displayed on a display part 8.
