Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent crank initiation from the bottom of cog by providing upper cogs in a number twice as large as that of lower cogs and by arranging the cogs so that the top of every other upper cogs lies over the bottom of lower cogs. CONSTITUTION:The height H1 of each upper cog 5 shall be smaller than the height H2 of lower cog 6, and the number of upper cogs be twice as great as that of lower cogs 6. The top 5a of every other upper cogs 5 shall lie over the bottom 6b of lower cogs 6. This arrangement ensures that no upper cog bottom 5b mates with lower cog bottom 6b and that the distance L from the crest P3 of lower cog bottom 6b to the crest P1, P2 of upper cog bottom 5b will be equal over the whole belt length, to lead to elimination of uneven strength, whereby crack will hardly be initiated at the cog bottoms 5b, 6b.
