Summary: | PURPOSE:To obtain an isocyanurate polymer easily within a short time, by using a saturated fatty acid zinc salt as a catalyst in polymerizing hexamethylene diisocyanate (urethane-modified product) by isocyanuration. CONSTITUTION:The purpose hexamethylene isocyanurate compound is obtained by polymerizing hexamethylene diisocyanate and/or an isocyanato group-terminated, hexamethylene diisocyanate/polyol adduct by isocyanuration in the presence of a catalyst comprising a saturated fatty acid zinc salt of the formula (wherein n is 2-17). Examples of the saturated fatty acid zinc salts include zinc propionate and zinc caprylate. The amount of the catalyst used is suitably about 0.01-0.2%, based on the hexamethylene diisocyanate material, and the reaction is usually carried out at a temperature <=about 100 deg.C. |
