Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a separator for liquid type lead-acid battery having excellent heat resistance and oxidation resistance and capable of being easily and inexpensively manufactured, by causing the separator to contain a silica powder of polyester fibers having particular configurations and an acrylic resin binder, and particularizing the density. CONSTITUTION:5 to 15wt.% of glass fibers having an average fiber diameter of 2mum or less, 10 to 20wt.% of polyester fibers having an average fiber of 3.0 to 14mum and an average fiber length of 3 to 15mm, and 45 to 50wt.% of silica powder having a specific surface of 150m /g or more are prepared. 20 to 30wt.% of acrylic resin binder having a glass transition point 10 to 40 deg.C is added to the resulting silica powder and the density is made 0.2 to 0.4g/cm or more. It is noted that when the surface of the polyester fiber is coated by the acrylic resin binder, this acrylic resin binder clogs the separator, to improve the resistance to oxidation. Further, since, except for the polyester fiber, the separator is constituted by an inorganic material and acrylic resin, the resistance to heat is improved. This process of manufacture would make it possible to easily and inexpensively manufacture the separator.
