Summary:PURPOSE:To form a copy faithful to the properties of a document by emitting signals to a path switching means and sheet material supply means by a mode input means according to the document thickness, paper quality and the mixed state thereof. CONSTITUTION:Sheet material P1-P3 of the desired thickness and paper quality are stored in sheet material supply means K1-K3, and a mode input means B is set according to the document thickness, paper quality and the mixed state thereof. In association with a start signal operated by an operator, the means B emits signals to a path switching means 23 and the sheet material supply means K1-K3 according to the document thickness, paper quality and the mixed state thereof. A document D is thereby fed to a feed path A1 or A2 suitable for its thickness, and the sheet material supply means is selected among the means K1-K3 so as to feed the sheet material of approximately the same thickness and quality as the document D to an image forming member 7 for image formation. This results in obtaining a copy faithful to the properties of the document.
