Summary:PURPOSE:To reutilize a transfer medium and keep the secret of printing content by providing a heating roll applying heat and pressure to the transfer medium after transfer and diffusing the ink remaining on the transfer medium to uniformly apply the ink. CONSTITUTION:In a thermal transfer printer, a transfer medium 2 coated with hot-melt ink and transfer paper 3 are superposed one upon another to be brought into contact with a printing head 1 constituted of heating elements and a current is supplied to the heating elements corresponding to printing data to heat the same and the ink of the transfer medium 2 corresponding to the parts of the heating elements is melted to be transferred (printed) to the transfer paper 3. In this case, a pair of heating rolls 4a, 4b applying heat and pressure to the transfer medium 6 after transfer are provided not only to melt the ink remaining on the transfer medium 2 but also to uniformize the coating with the ink. By this method, the discrimination of printing from the transfer medium 2 after transfer is made impossible (keeping of a secret) and the reutilization of the transfer medium 2 is made possible.
