Summary:PURPOSE:To instantaneously refer to a document during the editing of the document when another place is referred to. CONSTITUTION:When a document is displayed on a display unit 3 and an instruction for block reference or the name of a block is inputted on a key board 1 or with a mouse 2, a block extracting means 54 retrieves a memory 52 according to the block name and extracts document data within the range specified by the index corresponding to the block name out of the memory 52. A block display means 56, on the other hand, opens a window while the source document is left on the display unit 4 and displays the extracted document in this window.
