Summary:PURPOSE:To produce the subject polyester which is light colored and is free from toxic heavy metal by using a specific deglycolation catalyst to produce a hydroxyl-terminated, satd. aliph. polyester and adding a diisocyanate to the resulting polyester. CONSTITUTION:100 pts.wt. resin obtd. in the process for producing a satd. aliph. polyester is deglycolated in the presence of 0.01-3 pts.wt. deglycolation catalyst comprising a titanium chelate compd. of an acetoacetoyl type or an alkoxytitanium compd. to give a hydroxyl-terminated, satd. aliph. polyester having a number-average mol.wt. of 5,000 or higher. The resulting polyester in a molten state is mixed with 0.1-5 pts.wt. diisocyanate to give the objective polyester having a number-average mol.wt. of at least 10,000. The hydroxyl- terminated polyester having a number-average mol.wt. as high as 5,000 or higher enables the synthesis of a high-mol.-wt. polyester safely even under such severe conditions as in a molten state by using a small amt. of the diisocyanate.
