Summary:PURPOSE:To read accurate picture information inexpensively without need of luminous quantity correction. CONSTITUTION:An optical path increasing means 4 comprising two total reflection mirrors 5, 6 is arranged between an original 2 and a lens 9. The total reflection mirrors 5, 6 are arranged in parallel with the main scanning direction X of the original 2 at a deviated position with respect to the subscanning direction Y. A read mechanism section 10 comprising CCDs 11, 12, 13 arranged in two lines is arranged to, the rear side of the lens 9. The CCDs 11, 13 arranged on the same line read sets of picture information a1, a3 of split pictures A1, A3 and the CCD 12 reads picture information a2 of the split picture A2. Then the CCDs 11, 13 correspond respectively to the mirror 6 and the CCD 12 corresponds to the mirror 5 respectively and same images A', A'' are formed on each CCD.
