Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a forging device in which the relative displacement of upper and lower forging dies is detected and an alarm is raised when the displacement is beyond a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:In the forging die 6, an X detecting piece 7, a Y detecting piece 8, and a Z detecting piece 9 in projecting piece shapes are fixed. An X displacement detecting means, a Y displacement detecting means, and a Z displacement detecting means are each provided with a laser oscillator 12, a polygon mirror 13, a rotary encoder 15, a floodlighting lens 16 for making a parallel laser beam, a light receiving lens 18, and a light receiving element 19. When a metal material is forged in the forging die 6, the displacements in the X direction of the X detecting piece 7, in the Y direction of the Y detecting piece 8, and in the Z direction of the Z detecting piece 9 art detected by the laser. When the displacements are beyond the prescribed values, the alarm is raised by an alarm raising means.
