Summary:PURPOSE:To provide the title compound containing, as an acid component, 4-carboxy-1,8-octanedicarboxylic acid, not deteriorating workability with the viscosity rising, capable of giving polyurethane resins good in flexibility, mechanical strength and moist heat resistance. CONSTITUTION:Condensation reaction is made at 200 deg.C between (A) acid components made up of 4-carboxy-1,8-octanedicarboxylic acid and at least one kind of dibasic acid (e.g. adipic acid) and (B) a polyol component such as 1,6- hexanediol into a polyester polyol 2000 in molecular weight. This polyester polyol and 1,4-butanediol, etc., are then dissolved in a mixed solvent of cyclohexanone and toluene at the weight ratio 1:1, and, in the presence of a catalyst such as dibutyltin dilaurate, a polyisocyanate such as diphenylmethane diisocyanate is added to the resulting solution followed by reaction at 100 deg.C, thus giving the objective polyurethane resin excellent in mechanical strength and moist heat resistance with flexibility retained.
