PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of a display device by constituting a maintenance discharge electrode to be used in common with a next line to reduce the number of electrodes and at the same time to reduce a driving circuit. CONSTITUTION:A write electrode 5 is provided on a second insulating base plate 7 which is a front base plate and a barrier rib 2 is formed a first insulating base plate 1 which is a back base plate so as to intersect the electrode 5. And a maintenance electrode 3 is formed on a rib 2 including both sides thereof. Namely, the electrodes 3 provided on two sides of the rib 2 are connected with each other on the rib 2 to make a common electrode, which is covered with a dielectric film 4 and at the same time the electrode 5 is also covered with a dielectric film 8. And the base plate 7, which is a front base plate, and the base plate 1, which is a back base plate, are combined so that the films 4, 8 are opposed with each other, and the surroundings are hermetically sealed and then a dischargeable noble gas is enclosed in the inside thereof and the space put between the ribs 2 constitutes a gas discharge space 6. Thereby, the number of electrodes may be reduced and at the same time a driving circuit is also reduced to make it feasible to reduce the cost of a display device.
