Summary:PURPOSE:To provide the new substance having a high xanthine oxidase- inhibiting activity and useful as a medicine for improving and preventing hyperuricemia and as a medicine for treating gout. CONSTITUTION:4-Amino-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyrimidin-3-one (acaron) of the formula. The compound is obtained e.g. by adding sodium iodide, potassium iodide, etc., to 4-amino-3-methoxy-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-d]pyridine, dissolving the mixture in dry acetonitrile, dry DMF, etc., stirring the solution at 10-80 deg.C for 1-72hr under the flow of argon gas and subsequently subjecting the solution to a chlorotrimethylsilane treatment, etc. The compound exhibits a stronger inhibiting activity than that of allopurinol which is a known xanthine oxidase-inhibiting agent.
