Summary:PURPOSE:To sufficiently reduce a setting space, to execute bar code reading and verification only by one scanner and to vary each reading capacity by integrating a bar code printer, verifier and reader as a unit and sharing a scanner. CONSTITUTION:Paper feeding rollers 5a to 5c, a thermal head 7, a scanner 11, a head retraction solenoid 13, an electronic control device 19, etc., are included in a case 1, the scanner 11 is arranged on the downstream of the head 7 and the rollers 5a, 5b hold heat sensitive rolled paper 3 between them and guide the paper 3 to the head 7. The solenoid 13 arranges the roller 5b on the side of the roller 5a to carry the paper 3 or arranges the roller 5b on the side of the roller 5c to carry an inserted original P. The device 19 controls respective mechanisms prints out a bar code on the paper 3 by means of the head 7, verifies the printed bar code based upon an output signal from the scanner and reads out a bar code from the original P.
