PURPOSE:To dispense with any setting operation of a position display unit as well as to promote the simplification of position measuring operation by storing an optimum position display unit corresponding to each geodesic system in advance, and selecting the position display unit corresponding at a time when the geodesic system is changed in an automatic way. CONSTITUTION:When a geodesic system is set by a geodesic system setting means 107, a control means 106 reads an optimum position display unit (N.L/S.L, W.L/E.L) corresponding to each geodesic system stored in a position display unit storage means 108 for resetting. When data for a start of position measuring are inputted by an operating means 105, the control means 106 indicates a receiving start to a receiving means 102, while it indicates a position measuring means 103 to do its position measuring at the geodesic system set by a position measuring setting means 107, and then it displays the measured position on a display means 104. At the time of setting a destination, since the optimum position display unit conformed to the geodesic system is displayed on the display means 104 by operating the operation means 105, a position measuring operation is simple enough.
