PURPOSE:To provide a coating film improved in smoothness, gloss, weatherability, and appearance by formulating specific fine polymer particles into an aq. compsn. CONSTITUTION:Fine polymer particles obtd. by copolymerizing an ethylenically unsatd. monomer having a 2-oxo-1,3-dioxolan-4-yl group of the formula (wherein R , R , and R are each 1-4C alkyl) with another copolymerizable ethylenically unsatd. monomer in an aq. medium are reacted with a compd. having at least two primary and/or secondary amino groups in the molecule and an ethylenically unsatd. monomer having a primary and/or a secondary amino group in the molecule and/or allyl (meth)acrylate. The reaction product is copolymerized with a carboxylated ethylenically unsatd. monomer and another ethylenically unsatd. monomer copolymerizable therewith, and the carboxyl groups in the resulting copolymer are neutralized, giving an aq. compsn. of the fine polymer particles of a core/shell type. The aq. compsn., a curative, and a cure catalyst are dispersed in water.
