Summary:PURPOSE:To enable the stable operation of a smelting reduction furnace without entailing the early wear of a lance even if hard chromium ore powder is used for the power blowing lance of a top and bottom blown converter used as the smelting reduction furnace. CONSTITUTION:In the smelting reduction method of the chromium ore for smelting a cromium-contg. crude molten steel by subjecting the chromium ore to smelting reduction in the top and bottom blown converter; the slag powder formed at the time of subjecting the crude molten steel mentioned above to decarburization refining is mixed with raw material powder to be blown into the top and bottom blown converter mentioned above through the blowin glance, at >=10wt.% of the weight of the chromium ore and such mixture is used.
