Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a variable speed type passenger conveyor which can vary the shift speed of a stepping plate with the simple constitution. CONSTITUTION:As for a variable speed type passenger conveyor which varies the speed of a plurality of stepping plates between a getting-on port part and a getting-off port part, a rotary body 13 which drives the stepping plate is installed on the stepping plate, and a power transmission mechanism 20 which transmits power in contact with the rotary body is arranged over the part between the getting-on port part and the getting-off port part, and a means for changing the contact position between the rotary body and the power transmission mechanism in the stepping plate shift direction.
