PURPOSE:To maintain exhaust purifying property of a catalyst converter certainly, and activate a catalyst in an early stage by providing an opening/closing means which is opened/closed according to the environmental temperature around the catalyst converter, and which is operated in order to communicate outside air with a cooling air passage, on the upper stream opening part of the cooling air passage. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst converter 4 is provided with a catalyst body 6, a supporter 8, and a converter case 10. The catalyst converter 4 is formed in such a way that heat insulators 12 are arranged on the outer circumference of the converter case 10 in which the catalyst body 6 is stored, and also a heat insulating cover 14 is arranged on the outer circumferences of the heat insulators 12. Cooling air passages 16 which extend from the upperstream side of the catalyst converter 4 toward the downstream side thereof and which are communicated with outside air, are provided between the converter case 10 and the heat insulating cover 14. On the upperstream opening part 16A of each cooling air passage 16, an opening/closing valve 18 is provided so as to open/close by itself according to the enviroosph temperature around the catalyst converter 4, and also to communicate the outside air with the cooling air passage 16. It is thus possible to maintain exhaust purifying property of the catalyst converter 4 certainly, and also activate the catalyst body by exhaust heat in an early stage.
