Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a high-polymer dispersion type liquid crystal display element which operates low voltage and shows high contrast. CONSTITUTION:This liquid crystal display element consists of a pair of substrates 11, 12 facing to each other each having picture element electrodes 13, 14 on the inner side, small rugged patterns 16, 17 formed at least one inner side of substrates 11, 12, and a liquid crystal layer 15 interposed between the pair of substrates 11, 12. This liquid crystal layer 15 has an equal impedance to or higher impedance than the impedance of the rugged structure 16, 17.
