Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain red phosphorus of fine particles with improved stability and no need for the pulverization process by conducting the thermal rearrangement of white phosphorus into red phosphorus in the presence of a dispersing agent. CONSTITUTION:In the production of red phosphorus by thermal rearrangement of white phosphorus, the operation is carried out in the presence of a dispersing agent. Thus, powdery red phosphorus of spherical particles with improved stability, having the average particle diameter of <=10mum and comprising >=80wt.% of the particles having <=20mum particle diameter and/or their aggregate is obtained. The dispersing agent includes surfactants, slightly soluble fine particles of inorganic compounds, inorganic ammonium salts and amino group-bearing organic compounds.
