Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent mis-setting of a line identification code and to avoid setting from being forgotten by allowing a demodulation section to set automatically a correct line identification code. CONSTITUTION:A demodulator consists of a demodulation section 18 and a code detection setting section 19. The demodulation section 18 demodulates a modulation wave to reproduce digital data and separates a line identification code inserted in the digital data and sends the result to the setting section 19 as a signal 21. The setting section 19 detects the line identification code and outputs the value as digital data 16. The line identification code extracted by the demodulator is collated with a signal 24 representing the line identification code set by a modulation section 23 at a collation discrimination section 22 in the modulator to discriminate whether or not the demodulator detects correctly the line identification code. When it is discriminated that the code is detected, a signal 25 of line identification code setting enable is outputted to the modulation section 23, the modulation section 23 inserts the signal 25 to the digital data from a terminal 7, and modulates the result and it is sent to the demodulator.
