Summary:PURPOSE:To improve filtration efficiencies by performing filtration under reduced pressure by utilizing a barometric leg without using a vacuum pump by means of a compact construction, allowing, at the same time, raw liquid to be forced thereinto. CONSTITUTION:The interior of a closed vessel 1 is divided into a vacuum formation chamber 4, filtration chamber 5, and filtration chamber 6 by partition plates 2, 3. A water level gauge 7 and an air vent 8 are provided in the chamber 4, while the chamber 4 and a discharge pit 11 are interconnected by a barometric leg forming pipe 10 provided with a valve 9 in such a manner that the atmosphere can be thereby shut off. The chamber 4 and upper part of the chamber 5 are interconnected by a communicating pipe 13 provided with a communicating valve 12, wherein the open end of the pipe 13 in the chamber 4 is located at a level higher than the set height of water level in the chamber 4. A compressed air flow-in valve 14 is connected to the chamber 5 which is connected to a filtrated liquid pit 17 located lower than the barometric leg formed by the pipe 10 by a filtrated liquid flow-out pipe 16 provided with a filtrated liquid flow-out valve 15 in such a manner that the atmosphere can be thereby shut off. Further, filter elements 18 are provided in a chamber 6, while the chamber 6 and 4 are interconnected by a bypass pipe 20 provided with a valve 19.
