Summary:PURPOSE:To produce a sintered member nearly free from surface cracks and having high mechanical strength. CONSTITUTION:When iron-based powder is packed into a compacting die and the resulting iron-based powder packed bed is sintered by heating, the bed is not vibrated in a temp. range in which the bed expands. After the beginning of sintering, vibration is applied to the bed to increase the packing density and the bed is sintered by heating. The proper temp. range in which vibration is applied is 600-1,150 deg.C.
