Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain an optical shape recognizing device which can convert two-dimensional gray-level picture information obtained by observing a work with a CCD camera in an oblique direction into an image obtained by observing the work from a perpendicular direction. CONSTITUTION:The light from a light source 34 is reflected on the surface of a work 32 and the reflected light is made incident to a CCD camera 36. Scales 37 are marked at regular intervals on the surface of the work 32 and the image of the scale 37 is simultaneously taken with the work 32. The taken gray-level image is inputted to an image processing unit 38. Pixel element data of a fixed density are produced by giving actual coordinate values of each pixel element data of the gray-level image in accordance with a command from a CPU 44 and interpolating each original pixel element data. Therefore, gray-level image data of a fixed density can be obtained against the entire surface of the work 32.
