Summary:PURPOSE:To cause a rapid increase in the damping force of a steering damper only during the occurrence of disturbance. CONSTITUTION:The interior of a cylinder 11 is partitioned into first and second compartments 18 and 19 by means of a piston 17 and the two compartments are intercoupled through a first orifice 20 and a bypass passage 24. A valve 40 is located in the bypass passage 24. When disturbance occurs, a load is exerted on the load sensor 15 of a piston rod 12 and a detected signal for the load is outputted to a control device 47. Based on the detected signal, a valve 40 is closed by the control device 47 through drive of a motor 44 and the bypass passage 24 is rendered effective and the damping force of a steering damper 10 is increased.
