TITANIUM-ALLOY TOOL AND ITS PRODUCTION

PURPOSE:To produce a titanium-alloy tool with the hardness improved by specifying the heat-treating condition. CONSTITUTION:An (alpha+beta) type titanium alloy material contg., by weight, 3.0-5.0% aluminum, 2.1-3.7% vanadium, 0.85-3.15% molybdenum, 0.85-3.15% iron, 0.06-0.2% oxygen and the balance t...

Summary:PURPOSE:To produce a titanium-alloy tool with the hardness improved by specifying the heat-treating condition. CONSTITUTION:An (alpha+beta) type titanium alloy material contg., by weight, 3.0-5.0% aluminum, 2.1-3.7% vanadium, 0.85-3.15% molybdenum, 0.85-3.15% iron, 0.06-0.2% oxygen and the balance titanium with inevitable impurities is heated between the temp. 200 deg.C lower than the beta transformation temp. and the beta transformation temp. The heated material is then cooled to <=400 deg.C at the rate of 2 to 20 deg.C/sec. The cooled material is then aged in the area shown in the figure enclosed by point A (ageing temp. of 400 deg.C and ageing time of 12hr), point B (400 deg.C and 15min), point C (650 deg.C and 15min), point D (650 deg.C and 1hr), point E (510 deg.C and 6hr) and point F (510 deg.C and 12hr).
