Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a cermet cutting tool which is excellent in resistance to chipping and has an extremely superior wear resistance. CONSTITUTION:The cermet cutting tool is a cutting tool having the composition composed of 1-30wt.% of bonding phase forming components made up of one kind or two or more kinds of ferrous metals, and the remainder, that is, hard dispersed phase forming components (-hereinafter referred to as 'hard dispersed phase forming component' merely) made up of one kind or two or more kinds of carbide, nitride, carbonitride, and compound carbonitride expressed by the composition formulas: TiC, TiN, TiCN, or (TiM) (CN) (where M represents one kind or two or more kinds of Ta, Nb, V, Zr, W, Mo, Cr). The average particle diameter of the hard dispersed phase forming components of the surface layer part covering 20mum inside the depth of 5mum from the surface of the cermet cutting tool is in the range of 2-5mum, and the average particle diameter of the hard dispersed phase forming components in deeper part becomes smaller than 2mum.
