Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a tape printing apparatus capable of performing printing in the max size permitted by the width of a tape in an automatic size mode. CONSTITUTION:When a printing key is operated after character data is inputted and framing is set, data is read from a text memory (S61) and a character size is set to an automatic mode (S62:Yes) and, when a character modifying mode is set (S63:Yes), a tolerant max. character size containing a frame is operated on the basis of automatic size indicating data, the data of a contraction ratio to a framing mode, framing discrimination data and framing start data (S65). Dot pattern data is developed on a printing buffer on the basis of the operation result and printing is performed on the basis of this data.
