Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain an electric hot water heater capable of minimizing the adhesion of impurities on an insulation section of a water detection means and detecting water with high accuracy. CONSTITUTION:There is provided a water detection means which comprises a water feed pipe 2 connected with the upper part of a hot water storage tank 1, a hot water supply pipe 5 connected with the bottom of the hot water storage tank 1, a heater 6 installed inside the hot water storage tank 1, an insulation section 10 laid out in the upper part of the wall surface of the hot water storage tank 1 and an electrode rod 15 which is penetrated into the insulation section 10 and whose tip section 15a is projected from the insulation section 10. An irregular surface portion 23 is installed in a position located in the hot water storage tank 1 of the water detection means 9. This construction makes it possible to prevent impurities from being deposited continuously and the communication between the hot water storage tank and the water detection means, thereby enabling water to be detected with high accuracy.
