Summary:PURPOSE:To keep good responsiveness and lessen shocks even if a clutch is worn by making a lock up control of a hydraulic power transmission device smooth and shortening its time. CONSTITUTION:Connection control of a lock up is performed by a control signal value D raised in a step shape from the lowest limit value to the first specified value Dt1 of a connection starting point or an 'a' point immediate before it and then raised in a step shape from a 'b' point to P by gradually increasing it to the second specifed value of an 'b' point (bigger than a perfect connection point T1 but smaller than a perfect connection upper limit value P) Dt2. In making a release control, it is lowered in a step shape from P to the second specified value Dt2' of a 'c' point and then lowered in a step shape from a 'd' point to the lowest limit value by gradually reducing the control signal from the 'c' point to the first specified value Dt1' of a perfectly released point 'd'. When the perfect connection point T1 and a release starting point K1 move to Y2, respectively, a learning is accomplished of shifting the controlling gradient line in an amount equalling to the change of the control value.
