Summary:PURPOSE:To simply activate an FD and to prevent the breakage of data being accessed by turning ON an assisting power switch when the FD is inserted and supplying power in this state irrespective of whether a main power switch is turned ON or OFF. CONSTITUTION:When an FD 3 is inserted into an FDD part 1, an assisting power switch 4 arranged in the FDD part 1 is turned ON, thereby to start the supply of power. When the assisting power switch 4 is in the ON state, the supply of power is achieved by a control means 5 which controls the supply of power, irrespective of whether a main power switch 2 is turned ON or OFF. Therefore, it is not necessary to turn ON to supply power before the FD 3 is inserted into the FDD part 1. The FD can be activated easily. Moreover, when the assisting power switch 4 is in the ON state with the FD 3 inserted, the supply of power is not cut, and therefore the data being accessed is never broken.
