PURPOSE:To provide compatibly the light shield and insulativeness by covering a spacer material with a film consisting conjugate type highpolymer as main component. CONSTITUTION:A spacer is to serve for keeping constant the spacing of base boards of a liquid crystal cell in a liquid crystal display device, and the center material of the spacer covered with a film chiefly consisting of conjugate highpolymer may be an insulative material as keeping constant the spacing of the base boards, preferably particulates of polystylene having uniform particle size. The conjugate highpolymer may be either polyacetylene or substitute polyacetylene, preferably containing cyano-radicals. Uniform attaching of the film to the surfaces of the insulative particulates is preferably made by the chemical gaseous phase evaporation method, which equips the product with uniformity and liberates it from film flaws.
