PURPOSE:To provide the title slurry compsn. having a high concn. at low cost which has excellent flowability and can maintain excellent stability for a long period of time and be directly burned and which comprises, as main ingredients, a carbonaceous solid powder, two types of particular dispersants, and water. CONSTITUTION:A carbonaceous solid-water slurry compsn. mainly composed of a carbonaceous solid powder (A) such as coal, oil cokes or petroleum pitch; a dispersant (B) comprising an addition copolymer prepd. by copolymerizing an alpha,beta-unsatd. dicarboxylic anhydride (a) (e.g., maleic anhydride) with at least one compd. (b) selected from among vinylnorbornene, ethylidenenorbornene, and dicyclopentadiene, or a sulfonation product of the addition copolymer or its salt; a dispersant (C) comprising a polyether compd. prepd. by adding an alkylene oxide to a product of a condensation of formalin with an alkylphenol; and water (D). A combination of dispersants (B) and (C) different from each other in the characteristics, such as zeta potential, adsorption, surface tension, etc., enables long-term stability to be attained without detriment to the flowability.
