Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the maintainability of a CATV system by reporting the abnormality of operation of repeating amplifiers by an alarm device connected to an arbitrary position on a CATV network at the time when there are no men in the place of centralized state display at night or the like. CONSTITUTION:A polling center device 5 monitors the operation states of repeating amplifiers 4(1), 4(2), 4(3) to 4(n) provided on the CATV network by successive polling. If abnormality of some repeating amplifier is detected, the polling center device 5 transmits an alarm originating request frame to an alarm device 7 connected to an arbitrary position on the CATV network. When receiving the signal, the alarm device 7 gives an alarm to inform a manager of the abnormality and returns an alarm originating request response frame to the polling center device 5.
