Summary:PURPOSE:To suppress the fluctuation in characteristics occurring in the DC drift generated in the waveguide type optical control circuit. CONSTITUTION:A directional coupler 14 is formed by providing the optical waveguides 12, 13 on a Z-Cut LiNbO3 substrate 11. Optical control electrodes 15, 16 are provided on the optical waveguides 12, 13 and a switching voltage VS can be impressed thereto by a switch 19. After the substrate 11 is formed as a thin film, a bias electrode 18 is provided on the rear surface thereof and a bias voltage VB is impressed between the optical control electrodes 15 and 16. As a result, the optical control circuit with which the stable operation is obtainable is provided.
