PURPOSE:To treat nitrous oxide-containing exhaust gas wherein moisture and a catalyst poisoning substance such as sulfur oxide or a halogen substance coexist at relatrively low temp. CONSTITUTION:Nitrous oxide-containing exhaust gas wherein one or more kinds of catalyst poisoning substance among moisture, sulfur oxide and a halogen substance coexist is brought into contact with a multi-component catalyst containing an A-group compound composed of rhodium sesquioxide (Rh2O3), cobalt sesquioxide (Co2O3) or a mixture of them, a B-group compound composed of a chromium compound and a C-group compound composed of an alkali metal compound, an alkaline earth metal compound or a mixture of them as effective components at 100-600 deg.C to decompose nitrous oxide.
